Tracking Toward Haskell 2025
Executive Summary
By all measures, I would define it as being successful. It's created improved consistency. We're managing risk better. We have created greater opportunities for our people and career-pathing. We've optimized the capabilities and helped better identify the capabilities of our team members. We're more efficiently sharing resources across the organization, and it's brought a greater sense of unification and purpose across the entire business. There are a lot of enterprise models out there, and none is perfect. We recognize that, and we'll continue to adjust and will be nimble. But I would consider it a success, and it's helping drive our business.
Haskell completed its second year operating under the Enterprise Project Delivery Model. How have we matured and become more sophisticated, and what has it meant to the company?
The First Annual Enterprise Marketing Showcase, included the Planning & Development, Design & Consulting and Corporate Marketing teams, took place in Jacksonville, Florida.
The key to Haskell’s success, which started 60 years ago, is founded on a model of integration and collaboration, and that naturally lends itself to the ability to efficiently add capabilities and strengths across the business. We've done that with Blue Diamond, we’re doing it with DMI, and that's really important. We're in a competitive landscape, and our industry is intense. The importance of being innovative and always being aspirational toward what can differentiate us and improve outcomes for our customers, I mean, that's really what this is about.
Creating Blue Diamond Construction Supply and launching our Volumetric Modular Construction operation to support our Design Manufacture Install (DMI) delivery model are two recent examples of innovation and further integration. Why is that important?
It's common that we're doing 500 million- and billion-dollar projects, and the importance of sophisticated and sound risk management is really key. It’s important to be in a position to be selective with our customers, with the first test being, ‘Are they culturally the right fit?’ Having team members who are capable, that are skilled, that are driven to work in a team environment is extremely important, too. Doing select large projects can be a gateway to new markets and our ability to broaden our customer base. It helps build scale in our business. It fosters growth, and it really deepens the Haskell brand in our industry.
As the scale and scope of Haskell’s projects have gotten much, much larger, what have we learned, adapted and changed to ensure success?
It's pretty simple. It's pretty straightforward. It takes work, and it takes daily commitment. It takes getting up every day – not just in top leadership, but everybody in the organization – and making a daily commitment to, ‘How do we enhance and preserve the great culture that we built? How do we live our core values? How do we approach everything with integrity? How do we do it with authenticity? How do we make sure we're transparent and always approaching things by doing what's right, leading by example and being accountable to ourselves and to each other?’ It’s also about providing things like best-in-class onboarding, our annual Team Talks interface, quarterly operations meetings, and Living the Values awards, for example. Consistently across the organization at all levels, consistently talking about and messaging the importance of our strong culture and engagement, and really just continuing our commitment and demonstrating our value of how we value people, and our willingness to invest in them, personally and professionally. So, it's not complicated. It's just a lot of hard work, and it has to happen daily.
With more than 2,500 team members, we've continued to grow, as has our culture. It's hard to get bigger and grow closer at the same time, but it feels like we've done it. How has that happened?
Service is one of our core values. It's integrated into our culture, and always has been and will continue to be part of the DNA of who we are. There is tremendous cultural value in giving back to the hundreds of communities where we work and live every day. It brings a sense of accomplishment, of pride. Service is a fundamental part of the level of engagement, energy and purpose that we foster. It builds teamwork, builds camaraderie, builds a sense of pride within your own teams, within your own locations and across the entire business.
Haskell as a company and our team members individually work together to give back to communities across the country and around the globe. What does the value of Service mean to the company and to the culture?
I continue to see us realizing many successes in our Haskell 2025 journey, but the work's not done. People have heard me say that the priority for us is to stay focused through the remainder of this year on exactly what Haskell 2025 outlines. I'm most thankful for the level of commitment that I've seen across the entire organization, whether it's a team member who has been here 30 years or somebody who just joined the organization. I take great satisfaction in that because I believe that the Haskell 2025 vision was created with purpose. It’s a vision that's simple, that's recognizable, that’s clear, concise and easily understood. Then, in parallel with that, we made the deep commitment to enhancing our culture to make it as great as it possibly can be. And those two things intersecting is exactly why we are where we are today. We wouldn't have one without the other. As we go forward, I envision sustained growth with an eye toward deepening our levels of creativity and innovation.
As we drive toward the end of 2025 and the conclusion of Haskell 2025, the strategic roadmap named for it, what are your thoughts and priorities?
I think it's an important milestone because it shows the long-lasting strength of our company. It shows the history and legacy of the value in having an integrated and collaborative business model, always having a vision for growth and always having a commitment to our people. Sixty years is significant because it shows a lot of resiliency, and our business at 60 is as strong as it's ever been.
Haskell’s 60th anniversary is this year. What is the significance of that milestone?
We have a long standing history of valuing and leading in sustainability. We recognized in 2024 that that we needed to freshen our approach, and we did that. We're making great progress under the leadership of Frank Mangin and with the hiring of our VP of Sustainability, Ron Holmes. It's really about consistently communicating our corporate sustainability mission, providing greater team member training about what it means to be sustainable and why it's so significantly valuable to our customers. It's about creating awareness around what is the Haskell value proposition around sustainability and making sure that we're providing all the key metrics and KPIs to track our sustainability performance, writing sustainable designs and providing sustainable construction. It is simply the right thing to do, and it's very important to our customers, as it should be.
Given our dedication to sustainability, what do you envision for 2025, and what is its significance to our clients?
Innovation will continue at Haskell for our customers and for the betterment of our industry. Some of the newer initiatives that really excite me are our commitment to self-performance, our industry leadership in sustainability, and then our prefabricated modular initiative, which is clearly leading the industry and has the opportunity to expand both domestically and internationally. Whether it be components or complete facilities, this is truly forward-thinking and cutting-edge, and Haskell is absolutely leading that effort across AEC. So, I think what excites me most is the future. It's really that simple.
As you look across all that Haskell does and offers, what parts of our business excite you the most?

We have training built around the Energy Wheel, and now we’ve tied it to daily work planning. If an incident occurs, tracking now includes the type of energy involved to better identify opportunities to drive awareness. It's about controls. We want to make sure the controls are in place to mitigate that risk. If an injury happens and the controls are in place, it's unfortunate, but the measures are there to keep the employees safe from greater harm."

Hurricane Helene was one of the deadliest and most costly storms in U.S. history, causing widespread devastation across the southeast. Haskell contributed $25,000 to relief efforts through the Red Cross, United Way and many other service-based organizations. Just west of the town of Lake Lure, in Western North Carolina, 19 inches of rain caused extensive flooding, with marina docks and boats being carried onto the remains of destroyed structures, many of which had been swept down from the nearby village of Chimney Rock. As soon as they were able to reach the area, more than 30 team members and their families from Haskell’s Charlotte office worked overnight to prepare 500 pounds of barbecue, 80 quarts of green beans, and 25 pounds of macaroni and cheese for more than 325 residents and relief workers. What was left, they donated to feed about 100 more through the Shelby Presbyterian Church Adult Ministries.

David Thaeler, Haskell’s Chief Human Resources Officer
We are honored to invest in the future of our team members' children through the Haskell Scholarship program. The financial impact for the students and their families is significant (or considerable), and we are pleased to be able to help each of the scholarship winners on their educational journey.
Sean Lovely will become the first graduate of the Big Brothers Big Sisters Beyond School Walls program to join Haskell’s Internship Program in the Summer of 2025, learning the Assistant Project Manager role. Director of Workforce Strategy Mike Huskey was Sean’s Big Brother for three years while he attended Riverside High. “From the earliest days of our relationship, he had a career interest in AEC and has selected construction management as his degree path, which he is pursuing locally at the University of North Florida,” Huskey said. Sean spent a year between high school and college with the National Guard, which he continues to serve as a drone pilot. Beyond School Walls pairs mentors from local businesses for a few hours a month to provide guidance and exposure to office culture for interested students. Haskell was the second firm to commit to the program and, after 12 years, is the longest continuous partner.

The ACE Mentor Program of Northeast Florida affiliate was founded during the 2006-2007 school year in large part due to the efforts of Haskell and its leadership. The program has grown to 12 locations during the 2024-2025 school year. We expect about 100 industry professionals to participate as mentors, with more than 200 students engaged. Teams meet for about two hours each week to hear about a particular career, engage in an exercise and work on the responses to the Request for Proposal provided. This will culminate at the ACE Year-End Event on April 30 at the Schulz Center, where the student teams will present their work. Haskell has over 20 team members participating in the program this year either as mentors and/or board members, including the secretary and chair.
Ace Mentor Program
For the 15th consecutive year, Haskell team members led the design and administration of the SkillsUSA Carpentry Championship at the Georgia World Congress Center in Atlanta. As part of the annual SkillsUSA National Leadership & Skills Conference, the event brought together more than 6,000 state champions who competed in 115 trade, technical, and leadership competitions. The 2024 carpentry project focused on roof framing components and incorporated wall and metal stud framing. Gold, silver and bronze medals were awarded in secondary and post-secondary divisions. Haskell’s involvement reinforces its commitment to developing skilled trades professionals and supporting the construction industry's future.

CHRIS & Cheryl SHRIVERManager – Field Operations & Field Clerk
Making A Positive Impact With Every Project Assignment
At any job site where Chris Shriver is involved, Haskell will be recognized as a company that cares. When Chris joined Haskell at the end of 2022, he brought a tradition of giving back to the community wherever he was assigned. He and his wife, Cheryl, who joined Haskell as a Field Clerk in 2023, quickly positively impacted both Idaho and Jamaica, their first two jobsite locations. Having worked together in the field before Haskell, the couple understood that subcontractors, vendors and local residents often have reservations about an outside company working in the area. Their goal is to change that perception and showcase how Haskell is vested in serving the communities where we work. In Idaho, the duo helped lead onsite food and school supply drives before delivering multiple truckloads of collected items to the schools. Most recently working in Jamaica, the concern for everyone’s safety and well-being was always top of mind. In addition to buying much-needed shoes for workers, Chris and Cheryl stayed on the island to ensure the site would remain safe during Category-5 Hurricane Beryl, even though their home in Texas was also at risk. Putting others before themselves is how they live, with the cornerstone of faith driving their service mission.
Mark (Jason) AgustinProject Safety Specialist – Philippines
Ready to Lend a Hand – At Work and Beyond
In addition to serving as Haskell Bacolod’s championship-winning basketball coach, Jason is often seen at events that support various local charities. If a service project happens, you will typically see him along with his entire family (dog included). Jason realizes the importance of instilling an appreciation of charity in his sons, and his example of generosity and compassion is felt at work and in the community. Jason has a passion for safety and has built strong relationships across large teams, including operations, field staff and subcontractors, with a gold standard of care. One of the project workers recently lost their home due to fire and Jason put together a donation drive to raise funds for the family – just one example of his kindness. He is generous with putting together ‘hands-on’ teams for repairs and solicits much-needed donations for impoverished families. Making a positive difference is what matters to Jason, and whether you see him at the job site or on a basketball court, his leadership and spirit of goodwill are apparent.

Commitment & Leadership
A Message from Leadership
Haskell’s commitment to being a leader in environmental sustainability within the AEC industry goes back decades, continues today and will only expand in the future. We view our role in furthering sustainability in three dimensions:
Leading by example through continuous evaluation and improvement to make our operations more sustainable
When it comes to Sustainability, Haskell was an early adopter of sustainable design and construction. Haskell's team of more than 100 sustainability-accredited professionals and experienced design and construction personnel have a wealth of expertise to ensure clients' sustainability goals are met and exceeded. Utilizing cutting-edge technologies, tools and knowledge, our teams develop and implement efficient and cost-effective sustainable strategies to minimize a project's environmental impact and meet your goals within budget. Haskell believes it is essential for the company to show its commitment to sustainability beyond its staff. Haskell is an active member of the United States Green Building Council (USGBC), the Green Building Initiative (GBI) and an Envision Qualified Company. Additionally, Haskell promotes sustainability in the community through annual Green Apple Day of Service projects, river cleanups, and similar sustainability-related volunteer projects. Sustainability in the built environment brings a level of complexity to our projects. It requires the least amount of impact on the environment during construction and operation over the lifetime of a facility. We understand that our role in supporting our clients' sustainability efforts extends beyond project design and construction. By focusing on our own operations through reduced energy consumption, responsible water management and minimal impacts to habitat, we offer a more sustainable alternative to traditional design and construction services.
At Haskell, We Create Things That Matter, and contributing to a more sustainable world is a significant part of that.
Haskell has been a leader in sustainable design and construction for more than 20 years, and we continue to show dedication and drive to contribute to a more sustainable world. In 2001, Haskell became an early member of USGBC, a nonprofit organization dedicated to advancing sustainability in building design, construction and operations. The U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) is renowned for developing the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) rating system. USGBC also hosts the Greenbuild International Conference and Expo, the world’s largest event focused on green building. In 2005, Haskell built its first LEED Gold Certified Project – Frito-Lay’s Jim Rich Service Center in Rochester, New York. Over the next 10 years, Haskell created 50 certified LEED Projects, which grew to 100 by 2018. Haskell now has Design-Build LEED Certified projects in 29 states and three countries and employs more than 100 Sustainability-accredited professionals. To advance Haskell’s Sustainability journey, the Sustainability Council was formed in 2020 to lead the activities across education, engagement and innovation. The Sustainability Council plays a vital role in integrating sustainable practices across the company, with three dedicated subcommittees – Educate, Engage and Evolve – that ensure the entire Haskell community incorporates and advocates Sustainability in how we conduct our business.

Sustainability Team
At Haskell, sustainability isn’t just a priority – it’s embedded in how we work, innovate and grow. Our Sustainability Council plays a vital role in integrating sustainable practices. The council is a group of cross-functional team members passionate about sustainability and sustainable living. To emphasize and drive sustainability across the enterprise, the Sustainability Council comprises three subcommittees:
Sustainability Council
ENGAGE Sustainable Implementation
MISSION: Create awareness of sustainability issues and sustainable practices among our team members through communication, challenges and service events. We broadcast sustainability best practices and initiate adjustments to the way we operate within our offices and on our job sites.
EDUCATE Knowledge Consolidation
Mission: Evaluate and provide materials for Haskell team members by maintaining a database of sustainable design ideas, providing tools and links to other sustainable programs and features and providing links to training for sustainability programs.
EVOLVE Green Innovation
Mission: Create a forum where team members can discuss relevant topics around sustainability and environmental impact that go beyond design and construction.
In 2024, the Council led river clean-ups, waste audits, and sustainability workshops – just a few of the ways we put our values into action. This year, we’re aligning our efforts with Haskell’s new Corporate Sustainability Plan. Early initiatives focus on: Enhancing recycling and energy efficiency in our offices Developing a comprehensive Sustainability Training curriculum Exploring ways to reduce our environmental footprint on job sites By fostering collaboration and continuous improvement, we’re strengthening Haskell’s role as a leader in sustainable design and construction. Together, we can create a more sustainable world.
The Sustainability Task Force is a group of dedicated Haskell team members aimed at advancing Haskell’s sustainability agenda. The Task Force, formed in early 2023, was established to develop the plan to reestablish Haskell as a leader in Sustainability in the Architecture, Engineering and Construction (AEC) industry. This started with evaluating Haskell’s sustainability status and creating several workstreams and initiatives focused on enhancing its sustainability programs. In 2024, the Sustainability Task Force began the quarterly publication of Environmental Matters, a newsletter geared toward increasing and highlighting our environmental and sustainability knowledge. The newsletter enhances awareness of sustainability initiatives, advocates for eco-friendly practices among team members, cultivates a culture of environmental responsibility, strengthens communication on environmental goals and inspires team members to participate in green projects – all contributing to improved compliance and a greater positive environmental impact. The Task Force partnered with our internal marketing teams to update the Haskell Sustainability webpage and create a Haskell Social Media calendar. This allowed Haskell to showcase their expertise in sustainable design while increasing opportunities, enhancing client satisfaction and fostering a positive public image by demonstrating a commitment to sustainability. Net Positive ProjectOne of the most impressive activities of 2024 for the Task Force was the Net Positive Challenge. The Net Positive Challenge conceptualized, designed and documented a building that went beyond Net Zero to become regenerative/Net Positive using Haskell’s internal expertise across all disciplines.

Haskell Emissions Management
Greenhouse gas emissions are divided into three categories: Scope 1 Direct emissions from fuel consumption generated by fixed or mobile installations. These installations include furnaces, fleet vehicles and HVAC units used in buildings Scope 2 Indirect emissions from the generation of purchased electricity, heat or steam used in our offices (owned or leased) Scope 3 Emissions from company activities across the following categories: purchased goods and services, capital goods, fuel and energy activities, upstream transportation and distribution, waste generated in operations, business travel, employee commuting, upstream leased assets, downstream transportation and distribution, processing of sold products, use of sold products, end-of-life treatment of sold products, downstream leased assets, franchises and investments
Greenhouse Gas Emissions
Per the guidelines of the Greenhouse Gas (GHG) Protocol Corporate Accounting and Reporting Standard, a company’s organizational boundaries can be defined by the Equity Share Approach or the Control Approach. Based on Haskell’s business model, we have chosen to follow the guidance in the Control Approach model. Following this method, we will account for 100% of the GHG emissions from operations within our control. It is also essential to know that control is determined by financial control or operational control. Consistent with this approach, Haskell accounts for GHG emissions from its locations where it directly controls operations and can influence decisions that impact GHG emissions. This control includes all owned and leased offices, facilities and vehicles Haskell operates. All operations where Haskell has full authority to introduce and implement operating policies have been included. Haskell has operational control for leased locations since it occupies and controls its spaces within the building.
Operational Control Approach

2024 Sustainability Activities
Haskell performed carbon emission calculations for the first time in 2024. The effort utilized multiple groups across the business to gather the information necessary to calculate the carbon footprint across the three emission categories. Since this was our first year performing carbon calculations, the results are considered a baseline. The emissions are calculated and expressed in tonnes of carbon dioxide equivalent (tCO₂e) to represent the climate impact of different greenhouse gases. Going forward, Haskell is implementing industry best practices to gather all the data needed to depict our carbon footprint accurately. With the help of technology and AI software, we will focus on collecting additional data to improve and streamline the process of calculating a more accurate baseline, which will allow us to evaluate our processes and activities, thus allowing us to develop carbon reduction goals and actions.
Carbon Emissions Calculations
Greenbuild 2024 The 2024 Greenbuild International Conference and Expo, themed “Built to Scale,” took place November 12-15 at the Pennsylvania Convention Center in Philadelphia. The conference emphasized decarbonization, climate resilience and circularity in building design and construction. It also highlighted the upcoming launch of LEED v5, which will address decarbonization, quality of life and ecological conservation. Ron Holmes, Vice President of Corporate Sustainability, said, “The sessions I participated in allowed me to see that everyone is in a different stage of their sustainability journey, and no one has the magic recipe to success. It was great to capture some best practices on education, communication and support that we will use to strengthen our program over the next several years.”
Conferences
Environmental Financial Consulting Group (EFCG) 2024 The 2024 Sustainability and Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) Conference hosted by EFCG provided the opportunity to network with professionals within the AEC industry. The conference provided best practice sharing, case study reviews of sustainability-related engineering and construction projects as well as advancements in sustainable innovation and AI. A valuable part of the conference was the smaller breakout sessions, which provided an intimate setting for deeper conversations around such topics as climate transition planning and how sustainability was incorporated into the Hudson River tunnel project.
Haskell recently took delivery of its first electric vehicle (EV), the Ford F-150 Lightning. More than just an addition to the fleet, this is an experiment aimed at understanding how EVs can reduce fuel costs, cut emissions and help the company continue to meet and exceed growing demands for greener practices from clients and regulators. Haskell’s decision to invest in EVs reflects a proactive approach to staying ahead of upcoming regulatory changes, such as California’s goal for zero-emission vehicles by 2035. Early adopters stand to gain a competitive edge as sustainability becomes a priority across the industry.

2025 Objectives
To solidify Haskell’s dedication to sustainability, Haskell is evaluating several industry-led initiatives geared towards reducing carbon throughout the value chain. Using the guidance of these initiatives, we will develop the necessary action plans to reduce our carbon footprint and demonstrate our sustainability leadership.
Sustainability Commitment
We need to better understand our current baseline to improve our sustainability efforts and better understand our environmental footprint. From a corporate standpoint, throughout 2025, we will be working on several initiatives to gather data across all areas of climate change, water and waste. These activities will reinforce our confidence in the data, thus allowing us to generate reduction activities and reduction goals to improve our overall carbon footprint.

Structural Engineers 2050 Commitment (SE 2050)
Systems Engineers 2040 Commitment (MEP 2040)
Architecture 2030 Commitment (AIA 2030)
Contractors Commitment to Sustainable Building Practices
Climate Change Expand the data collection process to improve the accuracy of Scope 1, Scope 2 and Scope 3 carbon calculations Implement a Carbon Emissions reporting platform Waste Evaluate waste generation to determine types and amounts of waste being generated from office and jobsite locations Investigate a companywide office recycling program Water Understand water usage rates at offices and jobsite trailers
Using this baseline data, we will develop the necessary programs, procedures and reduction goals to reduce environmental impact.
